Interesting. I found a turtle that was soooooo small I was sure he wouldn’t survive if I left him outside. First I was told he was a snapping turtle so give him water…he did ok in it and ate but then I was told he was a box turtle but needs a dry place. Tried that. His eyes swlled shut and he stopped eating. Now I have him in a mixture of moss and bark like stuff and he is looking a lot better and eating again. I want him to grow and would like to set him free in the spring to go be a turtle.
I wish I could get a turtle, but I have a cat and my friend’s cat killed his turtle and I don’t want to take any chances.

Antibiotics don’t treat a fungus – only bacteria. Some of the symptoms described are also a result of being kept on dry substrate – box turtles need higher humidity than most of us have in our house. Hardwood bark mulch is great for a box turtle to dig in, and it holds humidity. Might want to consider a “tortoise table”, too, instead of a twenty gallon aquarium, to give the turtle more room.

I have a question. or a couple.Are box turtle’s skin supposed to be a yellow color?? and are their eyes supposed to be red? If not is there a certain type of food i can give my turtle to stop the from happening.?
Can I put water for the box turtle to swim (malayan box turtles) not to high???
